Manny Pacquiao Triumphs Over Sugar Shane Mosley in Boring Boxing Bout

May 8th, 2011

In a relatively predictable string of events, Manny Pacquiao outpunched Sugar “Shane” Mosley in their bout on May 7,  Saturday night (Sunday afternoon in Manila). The final score card: 119-108, 120-108, 120-107.

The two boxers battled it out on the ring for 12 rounds, with the second half becoming more like a sparring match, as both fighters dragged the event with jabs and high fives. Their seeming respect for each other generated boos from the crowd, as the fight became a snoozefest.

Pacquiao managed to floor Mosley with his killer straight left. Mosley went down in the third round, which amazingly is only the third knockout suffered by Mosley. The two previous knockouts were dealt to him by Vernon Forrest

Congratulations, PacMan! You did your Filipino people proud!

Charice Stars in New Hollywood Movie

April 30th, 2011

It’s really one great Hollywood ride for Filipino teen vocal powerhouse Charice.

After making waves in the hit series “Glee” as Sunshine Corazon, she is now busy filming her new movie “Here Comes The Boom.” She will appear as Malia (pronounced as Ma-lah-ya) de la Cruz, a student in a school about to lose its music program.

Charice revealed that in the original script, her character was supposed to be a Vietnamese, but writers changed it to Filipino when she got the role.

“Here Comes The Boom” also stars Salma Hayek, Kevin James, Henry Winkler, Joe Rogan, Germaine De Leon, Shelly Desai and Reggie Lee.

Defining Style and Character with Creative Shirts

April 30th, 2011

I have this thing for t-shirts with smart, funny messages. When someone wearing a shirt that has a funny message on it passes by, I try to quickly read what’s written. Sometimes, the message makes me laugh, or bring a smile to my face. Other times, it makes me think how people could actually think of such designs and why some wear them, especially when the message is not funny or is offensive.

Wearing shirts with witty messages can be fun. They not only help share what’s in your mind to everyone, including people you don’t know and just meet in the streets, but they also catch a lot of attention. It’s not seldom that we see companies (and politicians) advertising their products (or themselves) through t-shirts. And why not? A person wearing ad shirts is like a walking billboard — and this form of advertisement is so much cheaper than getting a real billboard.

Others just want to express themselves through the shirts they wear. There are team shirts for those who belong to certain organizations, sports shirts for those who love certain sports or follow top athletes, couple shirts for those who want to share their relationship bliss to the world, and even drinking t shirts for those who enjoy a good drink. The choices are limited only by one’s imagination.

It’s fun to show your creative side and be unique once in a while.

Taking the Ride with Online Stock Trading

April 29th, 2011

We started stock trading a few months ago and just a few weeks into it, we realized we should have tried it years earlier. Many would say this form of investment carries huge risks, but it also offers huge potential for returns. One thing I have learned in my short experience in trading is that you may lessen the risk by sticking to stable companies and not chasing trends.

With millions of people spending so much time in front of the computer, doing stock trading online is now one of the most favored ways to manage one’s portfolio. There are several online brokerage firms available nowadays; you just have to choose the one that best fits your needs, considering the minimum balance requirement, trading fees and services offered by each company.

Trading online offers the advantage of seeing how stock prices change as they happen. A bit of warning, though, seeing stock prices fluctuate up and down is not for the fainthearted. It is also not for the over-aggressive, always chasing trends without proper analysis.

It is also wise to read extensively on how stock trading works, how the traded stocks are affected by current events and how investment experts have managed to make money from the process. One such expert is Warren Buffet who has offered wonderful investment advice for those into trading.

NAIA Philippines: Worst Airport in Asia and 5th Worst Airport in the World

April 15th, 2011

The Philippines’ Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has been voted the worst airport in Asia and the fifth worst airport in the world, based on feedback given by online readers of the travel site The Guide to Sleeping in Airports.

Some of the comments posted on the site are:

“the worst airport on the planet. It has to be experienced to be believed. Think of a bombed out ruin and you’ll get some idea.” (Brenty)

“airport employees are the worst money hustlers around.” (Steven)

“Bribery and corruption in this airport is rife and the scams start the minute you walk off the plane” (Mecanix)

I often visit Manila for business and must say I always enjoy my visit …apart from the bloody airport. Terminal 1 needs to be demolished. It is filthy, too small and WAY past its prime. Lines are insanely long, and I was shocked that I had to pay an airport tax for such a shithole. There were no toilet seats OR RUNNING WATER in the bathrooms! A big bucket with a dipper was by the front door and about four attendants hassled me for a tip. (trustma)

We hope the government and NAIA officials have made plans on addressing these issues. How can we attract investors and tourists if this is what welcomes them when they arrive?
