1. Make a list of the things to do and things to bring. Make sure both of you have your passports, visas and other important documents, such as airline tickets and hotel documentation. You may also want to put in your list the following items: camera, foreign currency or traveller’s cheques, IDs, important medication, first-aid kit and some travel snacks.

2. Research a little about the place you’re going to — but don’t overdo it. You need to know the basic things about, for example, Africa, if you’re going on a south africa honeymoon. You probably need to know how to ask directions in the language the natives are using, or at least how to go back to the hotel if you get lost. It’s also advisable to know the basic restrictions in the place to avoid getting a fine or worse, going to jail. Just don’t overdo the research, as you may spoil the fun if you do.

3. Be spontaneous! You may bring a travel itinerary, but be open to changes as you go along the way. This is your honeymoon, so enjoy it as you want it.

I often visit Manila for business and must say I always enjoy my visit …apart from the bloody airport. Terminal 1 needs to be demolished. It is filthy, too small and WAY past its prime. Lines are insanely long, and I was shocked that I had to pay an airport tax for such a shithole. There were no toilet seats OR RUNNING WATER in the bathrooms! A big bucket with a dipper was by the front door and about four attendants hassled me for a tip. (trustma)
