From Meal Donations to Medical Liabilities? Toinks!
More than 200 evacuees at the Central Elementary School in Barangay Nueva, were rushed to the hospital last night after complaining about stomach pains, vomiting and loose bowel movement. These evacuees were flood victims of tropical storm “Ondoy” in San Pedro, Laguna.
Health officials are considering the possibility of food poisoning, brought by the chicken adobo they ate for dinner. It was found that their food was just actually donated by a local church ministry group. A police officer commented that if it can be confirmed that the donated meals have indeed caused food poisoning, the religious group may be asked to shoulder the medical expenses of the affected evacuees. Toinks!
It may seem logical to ask the ones responsible to cover the costs since, if we come to think of it, they should have been more careful in preparing the food. On the other hand, would it not also discourage donors to extend help in the future, as it appears that extending help has now proven to be more and more “complicated”? I’m sure the church group members only wanted to help, but now, they may be facing more responsibilities after this food poisoning incident.
